  1. OMG, congratulations! That’s wonderful news, for both of you, for your readers, and for the wider public that will be able to read your work!

  2. CONGRATULATIONS! Well done, you two. I am going to buy it SO HARD. I am going to buy it for EVERY WOMAN I KNOW who needs a Shapely Clue.

  3. I should be somewhat less distracted and might actually start, you know, blogging again.

Except for the part where you have to, you know, write a book. :)

So, your book party… do you want to have it in Chicago, or what?

  4. Except for the part where you have to, you know, write a book. :)

Yeah, but that happens at a much less accelerated (read: glacial) pace than the selling of the proposal, so I’ll be under less pressure. :)

Speaking of which, Miss Conduct, I don’t have those deets yet but will keep you posted.

I’m sure you will let us all know when your monsterpiece is scheduled for publication. (Not too long in the future, I hope.)

  6. Congratulations on the fantastic news! Hooray for you both.

Any chance you’ll have a booksigning in Denver?

  7. mazel tov x 100000 + 1. seriously. as a writer i know how long the road ahead of you is, but also know that you’ll make it.

did they give you a tentative pub date yet? or when they hope to put it on the schedule?

  8. Ahh, that’s what that faint “eeeeeeeeeee” I’ve been hearing in the distance is. Congratulations! I will buy a bazillion copies and give them to everyone I know!

  9. YAY! Congrats!

(And thank goodness MissPrism mentioned the “googol” thing, because I couldn’t figure out how to do it without sounding like a big ol’ poop-on-the-party type. Whew!)

  10. From editor to not-really-a-dilettante but calling herself that anyway to OMG real author. By way of baby donuts. Good for you for taking the plunge and making it work.

I would make a we are all Kate Harding joke, but this one’s all yours.

  11. Wow! Many congrats!

(From an occasional writer who has some idea of how hard it is to get book proposals accepted, therefore appreciates what a great thing this is. I will definitely be buying a copy when it comes out.)

  12. I’ll buy it!!!!

And then I’ll sneak out of WA to your place so you can sign it!

  13. WOW – Penguin, that is a really high quality publishing company. And there’s a chance the book will make it’s way to the UK.

Congratulation you guys, that it SUCH good news. I’m SO excited for you!

  14. Hearty congratulations!! I can’t WAIT to buy your book and add it to my LibraryThing list! Oo, maybe even as a signed copy!

(Like Emerald, I have some idea of how insane the whole process is; my hat is doubly off to you!)

  15. Yay! Congratulations and I can’t wait to read the eventual book!! I have a friend who works for Penguin so I’ll have to alert her to be on the lookout for this one. :)

  16. CONGRATULATIONS! That is the best woot I’ve had all day. :) Penguin is pretty high-falutin’.

  17. Brilliant!! Congratulations to you both. Can I pre-order by the carton and start leaving them around the city for people to find? :)

  18. This is such fabulous news! Congratulations to you both. You deserve it. And I’m a greedy little bitch*, so be sure to tell us when we can get our hands on it. I can’t wait to sit in a coffee shop wearing my baby + donuts t-shirt reading this book.

*not really. or wait. maybe i am. i am fat, after all.

  19. You know, I must say, this is a heck of a way to drum up readership in advance! Let me add my voice to the Congratulations Chorus… and really, no pressure getting it done… it’s not like bunches of people are waiting for its release or anything. :)

  20. CONGRATS!!! That is freakin’ fabulous!!

So, your book party… do you want to have it in Chicago, or what?

    I vote YES. :o)

  21. That’s pretty gosh darn awesome.

I must be the NYC spoiler who says that in a short time frame, you will be more distracted, not less. Editor-requested revisions. Book tours. Promotional photos. Parties!

So take full advantage of your breather to bask in the awesomeness.

  22. OMG! O. M. G. I am so incredibly proud of you two. Please, please launch it in Canada too. The great thing about signing with Penguin is you practically have built-in international distribution!

  23. Wonderful news! Um – I’m sure you’ve already said, somewhere, but what *kind* of book is it?

  24. Now I can say I knew about someone famous, BEFORE they became famous!

I will buy the book for myself and a ton of other people I know who need it very badly and won’t listen to me!

  25. Do you tire of hearing “congratulations” and “yay” and such after a hundred such iterations? I can’t imagine you would! So, one more HUZZAH from me. :-) I’m very much looking forward to reading it (and to more frequent SP posts).

  26. Kick Ass Girl!!!!! Way to go — I can’t wait to hear more about it and then go buy a gajillion copies!!!

  29. This is so amazing. When I first started reading this blog months ago, I remember thinking, “man if this woman wrote a book I would read the fuck out of it.” It seriously makes me feel better about the world that y’all are going to be published. Congratulations!

  30. Fantastic! I’m so thrilled for you both and thrilled for the whole FA movement. This one’s going on the coffee table, I can just feel it!

  31. Congratulations! I hope you will consider creating a music playlist for the book as part of my blog’s Book Notes series when the book si published.
