  1. Oh Kate, as per usual, you are the very personification of class…I’m just not sure how you manage it with a pair of noisemakers up your nose.

    Happy 2009, my dear!

  2. Ugh I posted under the wrong account. ilovejunk was me. See, I haven’t learned anything about commenting gracefully yet, dammit!

  3. Nothing says “class with a capital k” like doing walrus imitations in a tiara. HOORAY KATE! HOORAY 2009!

  4. I doubt that we have a huge percentage of gamers here, but I found something interesting and wanted to share.

Penny Arcade, a hugely popular web comic about video games, did their latest comic about a study showing that video games negatively affect people’s body image. (Unlike movies and television, I guess.)

In his commentary, author Tycho offers the following: I’m sure it was meant to be grim, but for some reason that story about videogame characters giving men self-esteem issues as well had us in stitches. … We found the idea that it was even possible to like your body incredibly hilarious. I’ve never known a single person whose body was not a source of psychological torment, indeed, it can be seen as the sole conduit of all human suffering. Even in its most pristine condition, the body is a prison.

  5. Despite what you may have heard, Kate Harding, as opposed to John Lennon, is the Walrus! ;)

GOO GOO GA CHOOB and Happy New Year to you all!

  6. Dude, Dan was just playing recorder with his nose this morning! It’s like you guys have a mind meld.

  7. Happy New Year, all! I’m proud to be among this tiny percentage of the population who will not be resolving to diet this year. (Did you know it’s the number one most popular resolution? Gross.)

  8. Wow, next time people want to play instruments with their nose they should just call me. I have an actual nose flute, you don’t actually have to stick it anywhere. (Though, if that is part of the appeal… Ew.)

    Happy New Year!

(Also, I enjoyed that Penny Arcade)

  9. Happy New Year, Kate, and thank you for changing my life. I’m not making any resolutions; however, I am happy to be over the last year where I will apologize for being anything but myself. And I really owe that entirely to this blog and everyone associated with it. Best of luck to you with your book and I look forward to the continued reason I fire up my computer at the ass crack of dawn every day whilst not skipping my delicious breakfast. <3, Yorke

  10. Gotta love it!

Thankyou Kate and all of the Shapeling community for the many ways in which you changed my thinking about myself and the world around me in 2008. For the first time in a loooooooong time, I’m making diet-free new years resolutions this year!

    Happy New Year!

  11. Is it weird that it took this picture to make me figure out which one of my childhood friends you look like? :)

    Happy New Year, Shapely Prose!

  12. A belated Happy New Year!

And, um, I have a strange question…Kate, were you by chance at a Target on New Year’s Day? I was and I could have sworn I saw you and your new legally-wed. But I was with my mother-in-law and thought a tap on the shoulder would have been weird anyhow. As I recall the person-who-may-be-you was in the blender-toaster type area. If it was you, SMALL WORLD and all that! I guess we’re in the same town so not that shocking, but still.
