okay, coming quite late to this entry, but i gotta say it (with first the caveat that i’ve spent the last two weeks reading all the archives, and, miz harding ((as well as compatriots fillyjonk and sweetmachine)) you rock!) …i’m super-glad (and slightly surprised) that no one complained about dolly’s apparently MASSIVE amounts of cosmetic surgery. to quote the unimpeachable source, wikipedia:
“On a 2003 broadcast of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah asked what kind of cosmetic surgery Parton had undergone. Parton stated that she felt that cosmetic surgery was imperative in keeping with her famous image, but jokingly admitted “If I have one more facelift I’ll have a beard!”. Parton has repeatedly joked about her physical image and surgeries, saying “If I see something sagging, bagging and dragging, I’m going to nip it, tuck it, and suck it!” and “It takes a lot of money to look this cheap.”
my own personal take on the matter is that you gotta do what it takes to feel good in you–hopefully with an open and collected mind.
but i don’t know too much.

I’m usually not much of a feminist (except in that I’m female), but this song just reminds me of a thought I’ve been having a lot lately: what women could accomplish if we’d stop worrying about the petty stuff! :)

Love that song, although it was approaching the edge of my country-tolerance. *g*

Dolly Parton has a themed restaurant here in Orlando. The Dixie Stampede. Where the South sometimes wins the mock Civil War battle that takes place. *headshake*

Yay, Amy Sedaris! But you know, there was a time (and I may not be out of it) when I would have taken this song as a judgment. It might be meant as "stop wasting time thinking about how awful you are," but it reads like "stop wasting time and make yourself better." As in, sure, you really are a mess, but you have to start taking charge of your life! That makes me really defensive. I dunno, I think I'm just being Debbie Downer cos I'm coming off a Monty Python high. While we're at it, here's my favorite inspirational song (pls ignore misspelling of "Hemingway"). Jonathan Coulton's not built like Blondie Bumstead, unlike Dolly, but the song's about George Plimpton and that has to count for something!

I went to Dollywood. It’s great if you love live shows, not so much if you’re a rides fan. Pigeon Forge and Gatlingburg are probably a lot more entertaining if you’re a fan of shopping, and the area is just freakin’ gorgeous. Seriously, go just to get knocked out by how beautiful the mountains are. I hear the golfing in the area is good, the hiking certainly is.
