I wish we used the energy we spend on limiting and stigmatizing children’s food choices and spent it on better critical thinking and reading comprehension education.

Oooohhh, look. A pipedream. Shiny!

LOL! at work, with bronchitis, not a good combo.

I just found this whole community due to the WaPo article. I wish I'd known about you all Long, Long, Long ago, before I started trying to diet my metabolism into submission instead of accepting that my health issues aren't tied to my weight so much as my struggle to LOSE weight!
I get to actually contribute to critical thinking education these days at least, so it's better than before, when I used to just sit around getting angry that nobody ever learned critical thinking. (Not that I can require anyone to actually USE the materials I'm producing, but it's a start.)

Ellie, you hit it exactly.
I want a sticker to put on my car that says "shallow assholes" with a big circle around it and a line through it. But somehow, if you are opposing some form of intolerance, you are supposed to be hypertolerant, which is ridiculous.
No fat chicks is wrong on so many levels.
I mean, were there fat chicks lining up to date these guys, they had to beat them away with sticks, so they had to adopt this policy?

I have fantasies where I have a big baseball bat and when I see a sign like that on a truck window, I smash it, and if confronted (arrested?) I say I was removing the sticker.

Wouldn't an I (heart) skinny chicks window sticker be a much more positive message?

I don’t know if they’re still around, but when I was in my early 20’s, I kept seeing these “No Fat Chicks” window stickers everywhere - ironically enough, almost always on a truck.

This reminds me, over Thanksgiving I drove up to my cousins house (in lovely suburbia where the world is perfect ) and written in spray paint below the word "Stop" on the stop sign were the words "fat chicks." Stop fat chicks. All I could think was, stop fat chicks from what? From living? From going through this intersection? What exactly is it that you, oh insecure, sheltered, teenager with too much time on his hands, want to stop fat chicks from doing?

Every time I saw one, the thought that went through my head was "even if I WAS thin, I wouldn't want to date a guy who would put that on his truck!"

That's what that one guy reminds me of. We may be fat, but he's a shallow, vain asshole. I'd rather be fat than be an asshole any day of the week.

Commenter: if you want to date me, then you must fall within the "healthy weight" range.

So, let me get this straight.
1. I'm fat.
2. Therefore, I can't date this guy.

This seems to be evidence in favor of obesity = increased quality of life.
