  1. Um, isn’t Shapelings collective already???

Also, I like being part of the *commentariat.* You don’t have to be a Shapeling to comment (but it helps).

  2. I see “shaplings” as any number of shaplings, whereas “Shapeletariat” a kind of formal statement of the collective will.

    polly

    Shhhh.

Actually, it’s possible that Fillyjonk will bust out with some Garner quotation about the difference between plural and collective nouns. But in layman’s terms — and by “layman’s” I mean “former editor’s” — yes.

  4. I voted for a winner! This is the first time that has ever happened!

Which says more about me being a liberal in a largely conservative state than it does about my taste, I promise.

Well, I wasn’t going to QUOTE anybody.

But I was going to say that plural nouns are different from collective nouns. They are!

Also I would like to go on record as saying that the only person I’ve quoted so far on grammar issues is a cartoon dinosaur.

  6. Ok, I concede that plural and collective nouns are not the same. Perhaps the collective should be “EBS” for Entire Body of Shapelings!

  7. Also? I am a blood relation of THE Kate Harding, star of The Daily Special, so I must be part of the Shapelingeoisie at least.

  8. Shapelingeoisie

Hah! Yeah, that one should probably be reserved for direct bloodline — those who are next in line for the Harding throne. (Apparently it doesn’t work by strict primogeniture.)

  9. Yaaay we are the Shapelings!

I had a super rough weekend watching my skinny friends try on dresses and listening to them talk about how I should lose weight for my “health.” I can’t tell you how happy I am that I found this blog and that there is such a great community here.

Totally off topic, I know. But seriously, Thanks Oh Great Leaders of the Shapeletariat, and fellow Shapelings, you guys are awesome.

  10. Shinobi, that sounds like a rough weekend. Were that we could replace it with a weekend of robust friends trying on Igigi dresses and talking about all of the fun things we are doing for our health already, like, as my child’s DVD player with Diego is admonishing right now, “shake your body!”

  11. Shapelings. From Planet Shape.

    Love that.

“I see “shaplings” as any number of shaplings, whereas “Shapeletariat” a kind of formal statement of the collective will.”

    *rofl*

    *RESISTANCE IS FUTILE*

  12. I didn’t read all of the comments yesterday so sorry if this has already been addressed, but I agree with wellroundedtype2–proseletariat is pretty good.
