Maybe there's just a lull in comment spam, and I don't know if this works with anything but Haloscan, but if you put a post-dated dummy post at the top of your blog, spammers that look to spam the most recent post will dump the spam there. This tip comes from the one, the only, the often imitated but never duplicated Driftglass.

I put the Mets' catcher Paul LoDuca up there and he's done a bang-up job keeping the spam away. And drove in 7 runs all by himself in Tuesday's game against Cincinnati, too.

Hey, our wisdom teeth mutinied at the same time. One of my top ones has decided to come through, so I'm basically teething now and waking up at night from the pain. Just had some x-rays taken this afternoon, and apparently one of the bottom ones is completely impacted, too--I'm going to try to schedule an appointment with an oral surgeon soon and get em all yanked out. I'm just glad that as of two weeks ago I have dental insurance again, after four years of going without!

I had two wisdom teeth removed with just novacaine. It didn't hurt that much, but the sight of the dentist manually extracting the teeth from my jaw was way too much for me. Funny, I once tended to a man who had been shot execution style in the back of the head and in the leg when I was an EMT, but the sight of a dentist reaching in to yank a tooth makes me all queasy.

I opted to let the other two wisdom teeth just grow in. I do have to have one removed though, because it's pushing on my bottom teeth. I'm opting for the total knock-out formula next time.

Good luck.

I had a cracked wisdom taken out last year and it was a piece of cake. I didn't do sedation or nitrous, either. Granted, it was a top tooth and they come out easier than the bottom ones. When that sucker's gone, life is good!!!! I was amazed at how easy it was to get over.

Rather than having them knock you totally out, which can be kind of unpleasant in and of itself if you don't bounce well, may I recommend nitrous? Super! Most fun I ever had in a dentist's office. Despite absolutely despising all prescription painkillers (I'm a surgery veteran at this point), I will always hold my memory of nitrous oxide dear as my one and only fun drug experience. Getting my wisdom teeth out was an all-around good time. Seriously. I tried to talk with a mini saw thing in my mouth. That's how much it didn't hurt.

Just get the wisdom tooth out. (Or get all of them out preventatively. I had all four at once, since they were all impacted.) You'll feel better and the recovery is only gross for a day or two. I couldn't even take OTC painkillers 'cause I'm allergic and it was fine.

Comment spam seems to come in waves too. Since the long weekend, I've been getting about 3x my usual load of comment spam. Hopefully this wave will pass and we can get back to normal.

Take care of your sore tooth. I had all four wisdom teeth removed when I was 21. Ouch!!!

I would agree with the making them put you under to do it...I had all four of mine out at the same time, and it wasn't that bad. I did have to live on milkshakes and grilled cheese sandwiches for a week...but had lots of nice painkillers to make up for it. All in all, it was way less painful than a sprained ankle.

Go the sedation route, seriously. I had that cracked tooth yanked a few weeks ago and it was the best dentist experience ever because they put me to sleep, I woke up, and that was that. The healing has been clean and easy, too.
