Madge, thanks for answering your own question, so I didn't have to. :)
Personally, I definitely have people I need to just look away from, and times when I need to look away in general, to preserve my sanity. But I've given up on believing that if you don't feed trolls -- on a blog or out in the real world -- they'll just go away. They don't. They stick around and keep spewing bullshit until someone takes away their microphone. That's easy enough to do on a blog; much less so when we're not talking about a metaphorical microphone. So all we can do is keep shining a light on all the bullshit that's out there and countering it with reason, as many times as necessary.

You know what, i AM too naive. I was over at Shakesville, reading the extensive comments on this Donahue dick and his 'performance' on Anderson Cooper, and i've since changed my mind. A person like Donahue CANNOT and should not be ignored. He won't just go away. His actions can't be tolerated with mere silence.
Would I put Matthews in the same boat? Nah, probably not, nor Hilton, opie/blah blah, etc. But i hereby withdraw my overly simplistic solution of just looking the other way from things we dislike or do not agree with.

Does anyone remember that Simpson's episode where pop culture mascots take over and start destroying the town? If not, to sum it up, Paul Anka is called in to write a jingle to help the town deal with these destructive creatures. The refrain is "just don't look! just don't look!"

I feel the same way towards Matthews, Paris Hilton, Tucker Carlson, Opie&Anthony, etc etc etc (i could list 100 names easily). Ignoring them gives them less notoriety, and maybe some day....some day, if we stop feeding these trolls, they will go away.

Or am i too naive?

I just read that CM transcript, and I feel as if I've lost my grasp of the English language. I can't understand a damn thing that they're saying - is there anything resembling a logical progression of ideas in there?

MATTHEWS: OK, let's put the gender thing in here. I love gender politics, guys. We have two women here all the time to make sure we're balanced on this show. But Elisabeth, I know you're a feminist, in the best possible sense of that word. You [Parker] probably are in a more traditional word.

PARKER: Totally. I pay my own bills.

What huh?
