Niki in the Garden

If you’re going to be in Chicago this summer, you need to go see the Niki de Saint Phalle exhibit at the Garfield Park Conservatory. Her sculptures are amazing, and several of them are of happy fatties.

I apologize for my lack of photography skills, but here are a few others.

And a happy fatty (with the best facial expression ever) who couldn’t resist the “children are allowed to climb on this one” sign.

  1. thanks for the tip K — can’t wait to see you in a mere few weeks!! xo-b

  2. I know! Eeeee!

  3. Those are soooo COOL!

  4. I REALLY want to make a bathing suit that looks like the “clothes” worn by those sculptures! I have no idea HOW to make a bathing suit but I don’t entirely care. *grin*

  5. OMG, that would be so fucking awesome.

I was going to go as Anna Nicole Smith for Halloween (because I have a friend who always goes as a celebrity who died in the last year, and I had the stroke of tasteless brilliance that she could be TrimSpa Anna Nicole and I could be fat Anna Nicole), but I might need to make myself a Niki Sculpture costume.

    Except, brrrr.

  6. Those are beautiful! Too bad I won’t be in Chicago.

  7. I love Niki! She’s my fave sculptor ever. Too bad I’m not in Chicago either.

  8. Ditto here in Portland, I would love to see something like that here! I wonder if there are any prints of her work, I’d love to have one.

  9. The Three Graces are my favorites!! Lovely. (The redesign is pretty sweet, too, even if it is temporary.) :D

  10. I’ve been looking at bathing suit patterns and, honestly, this can SO be done. And it could be done to measurements, which means the suits would fit better than store-bought any day of the week.

I may need a new sewing machine that better handles stretchy fabric….

  11. You also may need to start taking orders. :)
