Hmmm…1/3 the actual size? That’s frightening.
Still, I just checked out some photos of cicadas on flickr, and they’re sort of cute. Cute in that “please-don’t-infest-my-home” kind of way.
I’m not sure that pic, which I got from clipart.com, is to scale. But they are indeed big mofos.
Some pics I’ve seen are cute, some totally give me the willies.
I’ve seen one in person. It got into the house I was living in in Baltimore long ago. You definitely know when one is nearby because it is hella loud. And they are huge and ugly. Still they are harmless…they just make a lot of noise.
I do love the sounds of cicadas in the trees during the summer. We don’t have that here, sadly.
I survived an invasion in St Louis in 1998. The local candy store offered chocolate covered cicadas & I was like — uh, no thank you.
