As for the mom, my sense is that breastfeeding activists wield the false promise of weight loss the same way some vegetarians do. Because there’s anecdotal evidence that some people lose weight while breastfeeding or after going vegetarian, and because EVERYONE WANTS TO LOSE WEIGHT, DUH, they list weight loss as a benefit every chance they get. Who can it harm, right?

Only the fat people who breastfeed/go veg and don’t lose weight, and think once again that they’re failures. And only fat people in general, who have one more message to contend with–this time coming from people who tend to be progressive and compassionate, no less–about how undesirable fat is. But hey, if it gets people to breastfeed/go veg, a little collateral damage is worth it, right?

In other news, Mean Asian Girl looks like she’s never even heard of pregnancy–or fat cells–3 months after giving birth. So there’s your “evidence” that breastfeeding causes weight loss. You know, either breastfeeding or having two thin parents and having been thin all your life. Or eating healthy food and exercising regularly. But probably breastfeeding.

Perhaps I should have drunk my own breastmilk for the leptin. But wait, the leptin must have already been in my body if it was in my milk. So, hmm.

Perhaps the secret is to eat the mice after they eat the leptin? (Pureed for babies, of course.)
