So I just learned, via Fatshionista, that Old Navy will soon stop carrying plus sizes in their stores. Grrrr.
As an “in-betweenie”—someone who can wear either regular or plus sizes, depending on the make and cut—I love shopping at stores that give me both options (I am crazy into Talbots these days, since nearly everything [...]

Sandy Szwarc’s got another must-read up at Junkfood Science about what children are being taught about nutrition and weight in schools.

In which I answer five questions posed by The Cynical Girl. (If you want me to interview you, leave a request in comments.)
1. What is the most important commitment you have ever made? What’s the biggest commitment you’ve ever broken?
That’s two questions, you sneaky bitch.

I wasn’t going to write about the Alec Baldwin voice mail thing, because I love Alec Baldwin unreasonably and am thus perhaps unreasonably inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. I also think Kim Basinger sounds like a bit of a genuine whackjob, so I can’t in good conscience turn this into a [...]

But I got a letter to the editor published (scroll down to “Size Acceptance”)–and I’m especially stoked to see they printed TWO letters from people saying “Hey, thanks for not ragging on the fatties.” And no letters ragging on the fatties! Yay!
The article I [...]

Today’s nutty yet partially (British, in this case) government-funded effort to curb teh fat: adding leptin to baby formula.
Leptin’s a hormone that controls appetite. Mice given leptin supplements from infancy never get fat, evidently. So maybe if you give it to human babies, they won’t either.
A few problems with this, which the article linked [...]

It’s been a year now since I started the yoga class that made me fall in love with yoga. I started thinking about that in bed this morning, as I was doing your typical just-woke-up stretches. Instead of simply doing whatever felt good, as I did for the first 31 years of my life, I [...]

I have a friend with an Emmy.
It’s an International Interactive Emmy, which, okay, I didn’t know existed until he was nominated. But he was, and he got it!
It’s my friend Aaron, and the award was for The Zimmer Twins, a very cool interactive animation… uh, thing he does along with some other talented folks. More [...]
