I’m wrong: turns out lots of American university faculty members identify themselves as religious or spiritual.

Then again, maybe I’m right:

Generally, the survey found women more likely to think of themselves as spiritual and to have characteristics associated with a high degree of spirituality. Beyond gender, there were clear patterns about spirituality by race and ethnicity and by institution type.

Black faculty members are the most likely (66%) to identify themselves as spiritual “to a great extent.” They are followed by American Indians (60%), Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders (59%), Puerto Ricans (57%), Chicanos (53%), whites (48%) and Asian Americans (37%).

Hmmm. So it’s pretty much chicks and brown folks who haven’t seen the light of reason. You think that might have anything to do with the hostility? Naaaah. Who loves chicks and brown folks better than academics? I mean, it’s not like they’d just sublimate their real feelings into a more intellectually acceptable version of ridicule and oppression! It’s not like that at all!
